Drive Shaft Bolt
can't get the drive shaft to drop down after removing bolts..please help now?
my not so mechanically inclined husband is attempting to finally replace the unervisal joint in my chevy blazer (2002) bolts are out but drive shaft won't drop down..help now..PLEASE.......
In a 2002 you really shouldn't need a U-joint yet. Very strange unless you have a large number of miles on it.
Anyway, use a screwdriver to pry the shaft towards the transmission (the slip-yoke lets the shaft move into the trans).
To remove the U-joint from the shaft once you have it out of the car. Remove the C-clips. Now is when you use the hammer, use a socket on top of the U-joint caps to force the u-joint to one side. Remove each cap and then you can remove the joint
To re-install the U-joint leave both caps off and center it in the shaft. Put some extra chassis grease in the caps to hold the roller bearings in place (but not too much or it will make it hard to get back on).
LIGHTLY tap the caps back into place and secure with C-clips.
